Alex Coupe, Master’s-qualified counsellor and coach based in Hampton, Melbourne.

Some sessions may be more reflective and insight-focused, while others are more practical or grounding. The aim is to support emotional clarity, steadiness and meaningful change—without pressure or judgement.

Why I Do This Work

Before retraining as a counsellor, I spent more than 25 years in senior leadership roles within the health and communications sectors in Australia and the UK. That experience gave me a deep understanding of workplace pressure, leadership, performance expectations, career progression, organisational change, and the personal impact of prolonged stress.

After leaving corporate life and moving into coaching, I started noticing the same pattern again and again. Many of the capable, high-achieving people I was working with weren’t simply lacking direction or motivation. Beneath the surface, they were carrying long-term stress, self-doubt, emotional exhaustion, or the weight of constant pressure.

It became clear that before coaching could have its greatest impact, many people first needed the space and support to understand and work through what was happening emotionally. That realisation led me to complete a Master of Counselling and expand my practice, allowing me to support not only what comes next, but also the emotional foundations that make lasting change possible.

Alongside my private practice, I also have experience in school-based counselling, supporting adolescents experiencing anxiety, study pressure, disengagement from education, emotional regulation difficulties, and emerging identity concerns. I have also supported university-based students with the transition from full-time education to the workplace.

As the parent of two young adult daughters, I also have a personal appreciation of the challenges faced by both young people navigating the transition into adulthood and the parents supporting them.

Together, these professional and personal experiences allow me to bring both emotional insight and practical understanding to the people I work with.
